bicycles - a kid's best friend

I like to think that biking is in the blood. Since as early as I can remember my bike was literally my best friend; Cody has always been pretty obsessed with two wheels. We kind of fell in love/hate biking in the foothills of Alberta. These days our garage looks like a tiny shop - five adult bikes, a tag along bike and five kiddie bikes - every size. I'm so pleased to say that our kids are loving bikes as much as we did at their age.  In fact, because Kate started riding without training wheels at age four she has inspired two bigger kids to drop the extra wheels and they too have had great success.

At the start of Spring, Elliott wasn't interested in pedals at all. So, we went ahead and ordered him another balance bike as his previous one is officially worn out. Then all of a sudden two weeks ago he was gung ho to give a two wheeler a try. Again with the help of Papa and his back he did very well (without training wheels) in a matter of moments. If he would stop watching his feet the whole time he pedalled I may actually be able to relax. So far so good - especially for a silly three year old.

And here is some more of the mayhem that takes place on our once quiet court.

Feet on the pedals and head in the clouds.
Love it and love you guys.

what's up

Spring, how we adore you. The renewal that we have all been longing for is upon us and for that Mother Nature, we thank you.  The kids are busy little bees: biking, climbing, un-gardening, swinging. We're having lots of fun with a few battles in between. Here's a peak at what we've been up to.

So begins the season of parks. On this year's agenda, perfecting monkey bars and climbing trees.

Kate's Mother's Day portrait of me.

Kate's Mother's Day portrait with me. Elliott wasn't so cooperative.

Our renovation continues...

So many projects take so much time.

It's also Goji season again.

Elliott feeling the love with a belly full of frozen yoghurt and candy.

My sister was in town for a great little visit (last week). We celebrated accordingly.

Victoria Day weekend down on the Fundy coast at our friends' (the Bests) cottage.

Our little goats.
 Entertaining the troops.

 The boys moving logs.

Nine people rock painting.

Cody out for a paddle with the kids.

This time it's Julie and Rhonda out in the canoe.

 Our little fisher-lady.

 A sweet moment.

Elliott's turn. Check out that sky.

 Lake side loving from Aunty.

Tired kids and me getting their TV fix while heading back to the cottage.

S'more season...

 for all.

 A quiet dinner.

Happy Spring! CAKE

hey chicks

The kids' school has been studying the life cycle of a chick. The incubator has been plugged in for a couple weeks and over the last two days they started hatching. This morning there were six beautiful chicks. Unfortunately this afternoon there had been a fatality of a seventh. The scent of it pretty much met us at the door. I guess that's part of their fragile little life cycle. The surviving chicks will be shipped off to a farm on Friday (at least that's the story the school is sticking to). It won't be a moment too soon as the school is starting to smell like a chicken barn.

Aren't they sweet?

21 Day Life Cycle - not so cute.

Those poor chicks have so many friends.

Kate and Elliott trying to be patient for their turn front and centre.

Well I gotta go, I have to go turn the chicken skewers I have on the barbecue.
