We have been enjoying a couple of videos/bloopers taken while fishing this weekend and I thought I would share them. Enjoy!

Ouch!

Ouch again! Who is watching this kid?

fishin' and stinkin'

Cody got it in his head that he wanted to take the kids fishing late this afternoon, so we quickly got packed up and headed out to find a license and a good time. I had my reservations but it wasn't too bad. Well, that was before Kate had a meltdown when she had to share her rod with Elliott and before we got back in the car only to realize the putrid smell that had been wafting in and out of our fishing area had actually been our dog. Finnegan found some rotting, stinking dirt pile to roll around in and did he ever.  The ride home was revolting. I can still smell it. Oh yes, that's because I can literally still smell it. Despite his efforts, Cody couldn't wash that dead man out of his hair. Here's a few pics of our little adventure...

Besides our angling experience we pretty much spent the weekend in the yard or at the park enjoying the warm sun. We give thanks Mother Nature.

Have a springy week everyone. Mom and Dad I hope you finally make it home; we'll talk soon.

hop crunch hop crunch

Good news the Easter bunny found us again this year - poor little guy he had to make his way through the 15cm of snow we got over night. The hunt started off great as Kate rushed in this morning to announce that the carrots had been eaten and that a basket had been left for both her and Elliott. The level of excitement quickly waned as they wanted to eat everything they found.

The rest of the day has been filled with ups and downs corresponding with their sugar levels, I guess I should say our sugar levels.

Planting our magic beans yesterday.

egg salad anyone?

The egg dye activity box said for ages 5 and up. Now that I have a little personal experience I would say they're bang on. Kate couldn't figure out what to do with the magic crayon, Elliott drank part of the blue dye, they threw the eggs in the cups of colour rather than placed them and it literally it took longer to prepare the dye than the activity lasted. Again, the kids were pleased because they were bribed not to touch, spill or drink the colour with some Easter chocolates. And now that they are complete, we're all proud of the result.

Today's activity is a super simple one: plant some magical easter seeds in the front garden in the hopes that they bloom over night. Here's hoping that the forecasted snow storm doesn't impede the blooms.

To my Mom, Dad and Aunt in Mexico I hope your Easter includes margaritas poolside. To Rhonda, Norm, Aidan, Melissa and Simon I hope wherever you are - Germany or Turkey - is as awesome as it sounds.

All our love, CAKE

my turn

Kate was busy with Grammie Donna for the day yesterday so I picked up the Easter activity slack. An egg garland thanks to Canadian Tire and Pinterest: easy, fun, free.

While with us, Grammie Donna was so sweet and recreated a birthday celebration - complete with gifts, dinner and cake. Awesome - in fact that cake is calling my name right now. Kate was also sweet recreating my original birthday celebration as well. In Calgary she was sent to my Mom and Dad's room and then later to the basement for some major party pooper behaviour and this time it was up to her room for similar behaviour. Oh Kate, you little doll. I believe her words for me were that she was going to throw my birthday in the garbage.

Ever since Kate was born I have been longing to colour Easter eggs and my chance has finally arrived.  The eggs are on boil and it's tomorrow's promised activity. Yeah.

it's all in the lighting

Poor Kate, I'm positive the differences that appear between her Easter activity and our inspiration photo are a case of bad lighting. I mean, I am not a professional photographer, in fact, I have no clue. I guess what's truly important is she had an absolute blast. We don't have many rocks around our neighbourhood and so only came up with seven to paint. She went through them in no time and then proceeded to paint anything I could get in front of her: gift bags, line drawings of eggs, blank papers. This is a girl who has been long deprived of the medium.

Without further adieu, I'm proud to present Easter activity number three, painted Easter egg rocks:

Our inspiration as seen on Pinterest.

Kate's take. Lighting right?

Happy Tuesday, or as it's known in our house, Garbage night.

the seven activities of easter

In the hopes of motivating myself to be more creative and attempt new, Easter-themed activities I have set my goals on completing seven projects. Day one and two are complete and I wish I could say how proud and fulfilling the work has been, but I'm working with a one and half year old and a three year old, with the design eye of, yes, a three year old.

Day one, Kate and I broke out the glue gun and set to decorating an oversized yellow egg. I didn't see it coming but she quickly turned our potentially festive egg into an old man with a strange receding hairline and wings. Best thing about him, he now sits proudly on our mantle. Oh, did I say best, I meant most heinous.

Day two, Elliott decided he wasn't into napping today so he had to be included in our scheduled bake off. Too little sleep, red cheeks that suggest teething pains and a lot of fresh air, meant one little boy who literally bawled at the completion of each step in our baking process. We were done with the rolling pin: bawled; completed cutting out the Easter eggs: screamed; took away his sparkled doughy eggs to be placed in the oven: WWIII. Sigh. That was only the start. Three and a half hours later he has gone to bed with swollen eyes and no dinner (not as punishment but necessity).

"Daddy, why does Mommy drink?"
"I don't know kids, maybe her blog holds a clue."

Oh beautiful, proud Kate, at least you had a wonderful time. You are so patient with your little brother.

This is what my kid looks like when he says cheese. So becoming.

Speaking of becoming...
Day one's activity. Note the half head of sparkle hair as seen in the mirror. Carolyn, my friend, I totally understand why you art directed your little boy for all those years... for the sake of your blog.

If you're counting and I know I am - five more projects to go. Oh, and tomorrow's involves paint. A favourite of all mothers.
